The Story

A two-hundred-year-old stone house in the hills above Casares — where a wood fire, a wide garden and a very good bottle of Rioja have been the whole plan since day one.

Mike cooks; Athene looks after the room. Between them — and a kitchen that leans on the Mediterranean with a distinctly English sense of comfort — they've turned an old stone forge deep in the campo into the kind of place people happily drive forty minutes for, then book again before they've even left.

Lunch that runs long, under the olive trees

Stone paths wind between olive trees, terracotta pots and a canopy that filters the Andalusian sun into something soft. Lunch here runs long and unhurried — and, as regulars keep telling us, is very easy to fall in love with, whichever table you land at.

Shaded, year-round
Covered terrace seating for lunch in any season
No rush
Long tables, slow service, the way a Sunday should feel

Quite the prettiest restaurant I could hope to find. Absolutely delightful owners and staff, and superb cuisine.

Worth the drive up the hill

Turn sharp right off the Casares road onto the track — parking is easy once you're on it, and well worth the last hundred metres.
